Let's just say it happens. Would you volunteer for one year, or wait and get drafted and have to serve two years?

I think I'd volunteer and get it over with. Why wait if it's inevitable?

PS....is it only you and me who knows what hypothetical means?

If I remember from my brothers Vietnam planning, it was volunteer, serve four years, but get a choice of assignments or be drafted and serve two years and be cannon fodder.
He picked four years in the Navy (hated every minute of it) did not go near any active shooting. Came out and used GI bill, (still in effect then) to go to college.
This worked for him.
I, if the army would take me would declare myself opposed to serving in an illegal war and go to prison.
The army would not look at me twice because I am disabled.

I would volunteer again, and volunteer for 3 years or more.

2 years is minimum. I guess I would be back in the USMC as a Platoon Commander!

There is NO such thing as a one year service in the military. It is always a minimum of two years, regardless of how you enter.
