I wish Mahmoud Abbas all the luck in the world trying to form a unity government with Hamas. And this is not just for Israel's sake, but for the Palestinians as well. Its all very well for Hamas to take a no-comprise position vis-a-vis recognition of Israel, but they are up against the REALpolitiek of a worldwide community that recognises Israel and advocates a two state solution.
So, what does everyone think? Is there a solution coming soon or are we doomed to more years of conflict and hurt?

Guys. I have noticed the answers in the negative. I understand that. 2000 years of history is hard to change. But change there must be. Politics is the ART OF THE POSSIBLE! The solution will eventually come from the Palestinian people themselves who, one hopes, will see the benefits in recognising Israel.

Tinkerbell, thanks for your well-reasoned article. However, if the Palestinians continue with that attitude, it may NEVER happen. Based on all the suicide attacks, mortar bombings, stabbings perpetrated by the Pals on Israelis, there is not enough trust right now for Israelis and Pals to live together. No doubt many Pals are peaceloving, but there are enough radicals to destroy any trust right now. No, its far better to recognise Israel., have an independent Palestine with its capital in part of Jerusalem and later, as trust builds, to re-introduce Palestinians into Israel. I think its the only way. What would you suggest? Another war? Try wipe out Israel? Its not going to happen!
