I found England to be the most hospitable but then I may have wrongly attributed it to the language as I'm a Yank & was stationed in Germany for six [non consecutive] years!
We were warmly received in nearly every place in Germany too.
We were shocked how well we were recieved in France but there was the language barrier.
It is unfair to categorically identify this because I'm certain that the German's, French & Swiss had as much hospitality for us as did the British but...we caught the London Bobby's pushing my MG Midget from an unauthorized zone to an authorized space so that we wouldn't get a ticket! Completely flabbergasted us!
I'm positive that the English are the most civilized, hospitable people on the planet!

Oh dear. This question seems to have brought some of the most unpleasant Brits out of the woodwork. Three nasty answers by people who clearly spend too much time reading the Daily Mail.

Their nastiness made me slightly ashamed to read the genuinely nice remarks from a foreigner, Mike Won. I kinda felt that we don't deserve his appreciation, when there are people like Martin and J4mes around here.

Interestingly, most of the other replies seem to be from people praising their own country, but at least they're mostly doing it in a proud and happy way, not like our sarcastic miseries.

I shouldn't let myself get wound up by them really, because they're clearly speaking from total ignorance. They're obviously unaware, for example, of how much more generous the welfare systems are in the Scandinavian countries.

But I couldn't help but be depressed by J4mes's praise of our tolerance, while exhibiting some of the most intolerant stupidity I've read in a while :(

Personally, I've experienced wonderful hospitality all over Europe, even in Russia, which (I'm ashamed to admit) I didn't expect.

No Anglo-Saxon country is really hospitable, least of all England. The rudest people on the planet, arrogant and simple-minded.
They still think they can go and steal anything from the world-their land, their treasures, their people, and be proud of it! Unbelievable.
If you want hospitality, go to a Slavic country. Nothing phony, nothing fake. If a Slavic person promises help, they'll be there for you. No stiff conversation about the weather, no small talk, just SUBSTANCE.

Depends how 'close' you'd like to be to the people who live there. Scandinavian countries... Norway, Sweden, Finland, Denmark will definitely be very hospitable but if you'd stay in a hotel somewhere else in Europe, they'll love you to (as long as you pay).

this could be a very difficult question to respond to. i'm eu and from eire initially, and that i've got discovered that no be counted the place you flow in Europe, in case you're friendly and study some words in the neighborhood language ('please' and 'thank you' and 'do you talk English' can flow a very very good distance, on no account anticipate that the locals all talk your language; you're, after all, the foreigner) the persons are much extra want to open up and be friendly and help you out. i discovered it somewhat is the so-talked approximately as 'chillier' worldwide places purely as much as in Italy!

Hospitable Country ??? Depending on your definition, it could be perceived little differently.

>> If you meant HANDOUTS, then UK - just witness the able-bodied individuals milking the system, while those who sweat through their hard-work ends-up struggling to keep the roof over their head

>> If you meant WELCOMING, then UK - just see the open-arm welcome we offer to any Tom, Dick & Harry, who fancy getting into the country, regardless of the intention, be it be to milk the system OR to blow others up

>> If you meant SERVICES, then UK - just see the NHS (which regardless of not-so perfect state, STILL offers FREE treatment), free education that's recognised internationally & hence valuable, satisfying basic needs of their citizens like food, clothing & shelter

>> If you meant TOLERANCE, then UK - regardless of the mess this country has become by constantly bending over backwards to satisfy certain groups needs, we're STILL rather tolerant towards foreigners in general, a culture of politeness, respect & tolerance to EVEN those who hardly deserves it (be it be, for Johny foreigners whose existence hardly matters or single mum getting knocked up by a complete stranger after getting sloshed).

I find the people in Holland to be particularly hospitable, and they love to be given the opportunity to speak in English.
