You can't put preservatives in eye drops and they can be a great place for bacteria to grow and breed. The longer they are open and in use, the more likely they are to become contaminated with things you sure don't want to drop into your eyes. Better safe than sorry, so can the drops after a month. Prescription eye drops are discarded after you finish the prescription, and should never be kept for "the next time" or "just in case". Should also never ever share eye drops either.

Look on the bottle for an expiration date. Most eye drops are good kept in the fridge until that date, then chuck em', unless your MD. has specifically told you otherwise OR you have been using them to treat an eye infection. If they were for an infection, when your eyes are well, chuck em'. If you or somebody in your family happened to use those drops on well eyes, it could start another outbreak of what you needed the drops for in the first place.

Due to changes within the chemical compisition of the medication....usually takes longer than 30 days, but they are just being safe.....no to mention, the pharm companies are guarenteed more money if you have to repurchase their product every month.

because they get tainted if you touch anything on your eye while you are putting them in. its really hard to keep from touching anything ; (. i use eyedrops because of sjorgrens syndrome and also have "plugs". if your eyes are dry all the time then you may need plugs. you get them from the opthamologist. they make your eyes produce more tears.
if you are talking about redness then stop smokin/ that wacky tobaccy lol. sometimes slices of cucumbers over your eyes for a little while calm them down.
