I have a 2 year old motherboard [GAMILLA2-GL6E(MS-6577)] with Intel 845GV chipset, which i think is not SATA compatible. Can I upgrade my PC with a newer 250 GB SATA drive? I also want to keep my older PATA hard drive.

the only way i found to connect a sata to an ide harddrive is through the usb, but you could run it all inside the desktop if you really want to hook up a sata for the speed. Good luck and check the link bellow for tigerdirects adapters.

Well you can go for an external case where you mount the internal drive in an external case that has a SATA connector and plug the USB or firewire cable coming out of the case to your PC. It'll be slow and most such devices are hard to come by and are often unreliable but that's about all you can do short of a motherboard upgrade!
I recommend the new Foxconn 965 based mobo available for less than $100

No I looked everywhere for this - there is no adapter or anything like it. You'll need to get a new board!
