It is impossible to exploit supernatural resources to provide food, clothing, housing and energy for transportation or home heating or to pave roads or build bridges for an ever increasing population. Unless you live in a cave eating herbs and berries you are part of the "demand" curve. Others earn their living as part of the "supply" curve. Part of the present costs of living is the responsible exploitation of natural resources. Oil rigs and oil tankers must not spill. Pesticides must be carefully controlled. Air polution must be curbed using expensive scrubbers on power plants. Much more can be done. How much more are you willing to pay? Exploit is not necessarily a "dirty" word. Hopefully you will have an opportunity to exploit your own brains and talent. Good luck.

LOL, it is all a part of the circle of life. "Exploit". A word that has come to have extraordinarily negative connotations.

At what point does "use" to maintain existance cross over the line and become "exploitation"? The point at which the collection exceeds the usage? The old "kill only what you intend to eat" theory. If mankind did not set up stores for the winter, they would have died. Even the human body stores up fat against a possible famine. Animals store a backlog to ensure their existance against harder times. Plants store sunshine and nutrients from the soil. Is it exploitation? No.

Necessity is the mother of invention. As resources start to dwindle, new methods of meeting the needs then evolve. This earth was here long before man, and it will be here long after man. We are just a small speck on the life line of this planet. It would take a whole lot more than this puny world of people to destroy this planet. Of course, your question lends itself more to mankind destroying itself, which is much more likely.

Utilizing the natural resources is all a part of the natural circle of life. A part of the evolution. If you want to save a specific part of the ecological system, then choose your area of expertise, and find alternate methods of fulfilling the need that it has been fulfilling. It is easy to complain about the mess we are leaving to our children, everyone knows what the problems are. Be a part of the solution.
