We used to play a game called 'scatter' with socks balled up inside other socks. Or football (amer.) with same. Thanks for input.

Yes we do! Normally, I eat everything in Recess so I can have fun at Lunchtime.

Mostly we girls sat apart from the boys, we ate and gossiped the whole recess away. Always in view of the boys.
The boys usually had some form of game going on, which generally included some type of ball.

Yeah, cool question!!!! Thanks for taking me back. Im a decade past school years but we had recess back then. Used to play what we called "pat-a-tennis". Me and a mate made up tournaments for the whole school (its basically just tennis on a tiny court) but we never wrote down any scores so just made up who got into the next round....:) Or we just played cricket.

dodge ball, red rover, swings ...recess was a joyous break from the slavery feeling of the schoolhouse. I see the yard and playground equipment in schoolyards now, kids don't have to use imagination anymore.

Well, we had recess in elementary school when we would play handball and tetherball. Then in middle school we had a short "break" when we played four-square. There is nothing for high school and beyond =P

we dont have recess anymore... too many kids messing up the courtyard with food wrappers and stuff... ugh. so we just sit around in the cafeteria and eat. boring school, yeah. but then again i'm in high school.
but in elementary school, it totally rocked!

In primary school, the girls would play tag and hopscotch and jump rope. And the boys would run around in the field and play soccer.

Yep, (30 years ago) we played American football too (I'm from Wisconsin). Otherwise, we (me and my friends) just tried to hang out and not get beat up.
