yahoo! is good coz it has room's...but as we all agree they have severe problem of bots.
ICQ is good alternative, it has rooms too but not as popular as yahoo!
MSN and Gtalk &Aim r good if ya have big list of friends added to you.
why dont you try! multi protocol messengers
Gaim and trillion//
they have all in just one...you gonna like it.

Besides Yahoo Messenger I'm also using GAIM (nice because it's open source so you can make it the way you want to, plus it supports multi user logging) and Trillian (this one in case somehing happens with Yahoo; i consider it the most gifted messenger - from various and really nice themes to multi emoticons packages). Of course there is also MSN Messenger, now Live Messenger but I don't use it so often (it annoys me when it saves all those sqm files...)

i use yahoo... aim sucks *** and msn is just weird.. i dont know what else is out there because i dont really care.. im a yahoo girl and i plan on staying that way..
