I want to improve because I sang along to a song by myself once before and I sounded awful and now I don't want to sing in front of people because I know I sound awful but the thing is that I really like singing and I want to improve but I don't want to take lessons because when I sing in front of people I freeze because I know I'm rubbish. Any advice?

You have to take lessons. You need constructive criticism. You need someone to tell you what you need to improve. You need a voice teacher because their ear is trained to know what sounds good and what doesn't. And a voice teacher can really bring up your confidence in your signing. If you don't take lessons or sing in front of anyone, then you will only sing for yourself until you make the decision to change that. You have to think about what are your goals as a singer. Do you aspire to sing in front of 10,000 people and be a famous singer or do you want to sing only to yourself? Find a voice teacher and take a lesson. That is the best thing you can do. I

These days you can learn how to sing over the internet. Check out Aaron Anastasi's singing video lessons here: http://www.voicevideolessons.com The videos are very easy to follow and to my surprise extremely helpful even for advanced singers. For beginners I would have to say this is a gold mine. I was able to improve my singing, voice tone and range in just under two weeks and I am an advanced musician, been doing this for the last 13 years.

I live in New York City, I wanted to go to a singing teacher but that would have cost me over $1400 per month. Good thing with this internet, $1400 it's a lot of money for me.

Singers like Mariah Carey, Celine Dion and Beyonce make it sound easy to sing up in the stratosphere. However,

singing in your upper register can be quite a challenge. In fact, learning how to sing high notes take a lot of

dedication and practice. However, if you have the drive and the discipline you too can learn how to sing high

notes.

Your voice is something that many people take for granted. However, what you must learn is that your voice is

essentially the product of the work that your vocal chords do. Those vocal chords are muscles, and that means that

much like an athlete you need to train your muscles. As you train them their will have greater stamina, more

flexibility, and be able to reach further.

In order to begin training so that you can learn how to sing high notes you will need to do a basic range test of

your voice. The truth is that each voice fits into a different range depending on gender and the individual person.

For example, females traditionally fit into the following categories: Soprano (high), Mezzo Soprano (middle), and

Alto (low). Whereas men fall into the categories of: Tenor (high), Baritone (middle), and Bass (low). A man's range

will be lower than a female's range with the exception of a few rare cases.

This website: www.vocalist.org.uk is really helpful but honestly, i was really scared of singing in front of people but then i just took the plunge and got some lessons. The teacher won't laugh or anything and i improved much quicker than i would have on my own. So, if you have the time and money, it is worth trying it out.

You will find that most computers have a mic in slot. Put a mic in, and use your recording equipment to sing into your PC. There are some generic recording equipment on most modern PC's.

Try learning where your vocal range lies. What notes you can hit and what you cannot hit. If you are tone deaf and cannot tell that you are flat when singing, you will never be able to sing. If you can tell that your voice is flat, then you can improve it.

What I mean by flat is that within each tone, there are semi tones and semi demi tones. On a piano a black key is known as a semi-tone roughly. (a tone between two tones)

If you sing a scale of 8 notes (an octave), and any of the notes are off and you cannot tell then do not bother trying to sing. (except on Karaoke evenings where tone deaf singers are in the majority)
