Since getting broadband 18months ago, Ive been getting disconnections when its raining, thundery, very sunny/hot, and also during coldest days of winter. I think the problem is the 20m wire connecting our house to the telegraph pole down the street. Done the quiet line test, live not far from the exchange, and use data cable from master socket to modem, and have relevant filters where they should be. Was getting disconnected about every 7-8 seconds a couple of nights ago. I think I might have to get cable instead, but just wondered if anyone else had this problem, and wether BT can do anything to fix it first? Thanks.

Constant disconnections is certainly a problem that BT will sort but you must log the call with your isp and not BT directly as your isp must check out things from their side first and once they have established that problem lies at the BT side then they will arrange with a BT engineer to come out to your home.

Do not cancel your DD as recommended by the first poster as your engaged in legal contract and must pay your bills. If you have problems with your service you must first inform them so that they can sort the problem. If they don't know they can't sort it.

where BT is concerned and broadband we had it installed by BT and had a similar fault but they wouldn't help because we have more than 1 PC connected. i was told for remote testing purposes it must be 1 PC only direct (not wireless) connected to the modem/router. you didn't specify if BT is your actual supplier if its through wanadoo or a company that uses BT lines then they are supplying the service and are responsible in keeping that working, if it doesn't work then they should contact BT on your behalf.
hope it helps

Contact BT by phone first, then if no joy that way email them via their website, you normally get a quick response via email. Ask them to send an engineer to check the cable from the house to the telegraph pole...also ask neighbours if they are having similar problems.

Since this is a disconnection problem you must go through your ISP first who will go through their technical section and contact BT on your behalf. Are you using a modem or router and which make is it?

More likely the gear is overloaded with surfers having not much else to do. Sparse S.P. service?
