Please explain, i find them boring and bland. not to say Midge wasn't a good singer. but their chart placings mostly outside top 20, indicate that i'm not the only one who has ever thought this.

They were good, but inconsistent. Their best album (where most of the songs were good, instead of one or two) was Quartet.
Ultravox was doing something that at that time no-one else was, and they paved the way for people like Gary Numan who in turn paved the way for just about every synth based band ever since.

I thought they were ok, Vienna has to be their best single.
