do people realize the horrific toll this is taking on US Military members and that George has us headed toward another Viet Nam situation. Troops dying daily and in a quagmire that we are unable to leave. Will it take 58,000 dead before American public wakes up to see the reality of this mess.

What about the total civilian deaths in iraq as well? I'm sure they are many times higher than the 9/11 casualties. Why should all these innocent people have died becasue of 9/11, for no good reason?

I have total sympathy for the victims of 9/11 and also the coalition troops, but the fact is that the US and my own country (the UK) have to realise that these deaths of civillians in iraq cannot be justified. Until we do so we will encourage more despicable terrorist acts to be carried out on our shores.

The US can be a power for good in the world but it needs to lose it's arrogance. It can no longer treat the deaths of civilians in far away, less fortunate counties as "collateral damage", in the pursuit of it's foreign policy aims (as it consistantly done so since WW2 -Vietnam is a prime example). The UK also needs to remove itself from George Bush's backside and make it's own, justifiable foreign policy decisions. Hopefully once Tony Blair steps down next year this will be the case.

Grab a history book. The one act that precipitated WWI killing one person lead to the deaths on 9 million people. Probably more because Britain and France wanted to punish Germany for something that was started by Austria-Hungry. By punishing Germany for the war a vacuum was created causing inflation so high that it took a wheelbarrow full of Deuch-Marks to buy a single loaf of bread. With inflation like that it caused the German people to get desperate. This brought about the rise of the National Socialist Party in Germany. Six million Jews were killed. Now this doesn't count the numbers of troops everyone lost, But the death of one man can be traced to the loss of probably 20 million people (educated guess).

Now with all the troops we lost in WWII are you going to tell me that we would have been better off with someone that wanted to rule the world, that had committed the biggest genocide the world has ever seen?

If you say we needed to fight Hitler then you will have to be consistent with all the people that Saddam gassed with the people he tortured and killed and for his support of Hamas and their suicide bombers he would have had to go.

I'm not sure how many death the American people will be able to withstand. I do believe it is a little pointless to compare the deaths from 9/11 to military deaths since then. In WWII, we lost 100x times the amount lost in Pearl Harbor, but no one seems to believe that war was a mistake.

It's far, far worse than Vietnam, on several counts.
Yes, we have the equal of Vietnam in a never ending war.
But we also have depleted uranium, which is far more dangerous than Agent Orange. over 300 tons of dep-leted uranium have been used in Iraq.
Depleted uranium stays around for billions of years, emitting radiation every second.
It gives people, who are doomed to death with no cure, so much pain, that they are happy to be used as a suicide bomber, just to relieve the pain.

But that's not all. Another simultaneous war is being threatened. There are already 5 USA battle ships in the Straights of Hormuz, awaiting the order to attack Iran. With nuclear weapons no less.

Yes, I realise just how bad it is!!!!

How long will it be before you wake up and realize that you can wake up in your own bed and do all the things you do everyday, including harp on something you probably heard your boyfriend say? I am willing to bet the farm that if you lived in Iraq, you would be begging for someone to get you out of the life you had been living under Saddam, and that you would be, get this, GRATEFUL for the US soldiers that are there now.

And if we hadn't gone after the terrorists, there probably would have been more deaths than that right here in the civilian population.

Borrow a crayon & write this down...
The Islamic Extremeists won't stop until every non Muslim is dead or they are dead.
Take your pick...them or US.
I choose to have them dead, not us. (BTW: So did Bush)
