There is nothing you can do to hurry things along except walk, walk, walk. Stay in an upright position to keep the baby's head against the cervix, sitting if you can't stand- anyway to keep gravity pulling on that little head. If this is your first baby, thinning won't start until actual labor begins. The cervix will soften and thin, and then it will dialate. In future labors, thinning and dialation occur at the same time. If you are in active labor, the doctor can use medications to help the process by increasing the intensity of the contractions, but it is not a pleasant thing for you. It is pressure against the cervix that does the work, not anything else. So walk, sit, ride, but don't lay down unless absolutely necessary. Squat down when you can. Nap upright on the toilet, facing the back and head on a pillow when the labor actually starts, if need be. Gravity just became your best friend.

If you are dilated 3, don't bath in sitting in a tub of anything!
Once you reach active labor your body will thin out the cervix, sometimes effacement doesn't happen until you are in active labor, other times it will start a week or so before.
The baby will come when she ready! Don't take any over the counter medications, or home remedies to hurry this process. Walking is helpful.

If you are ready you can have your doctor put some medicine on your cervix that will thin it out.

I know you dont want to hear it but dont do anything.Your baby will come when its ready not when you or the doctors think its ready.Trust that your baby and body know whats best.Trying to force dialation or labor has a strong chance of causing you problems....just relax and enjoy the end of your pregnancy and remember you will never again have this baby in your belly..you will never get the time back so relax, pamper yourself, lay on the couch watch some good shows,go get a massage,go to lunch, walk through the mall and shop. You will blink and the next thing you know your baby is turning one.

Nap on the toilet? Where did that come from? Have sex! Prostaglandins from male ejaculation help ripen the cervix.
