Here are some reading regarding direct connect, it might helps.
When you type: Win+R, you will type \\Computername (NOT front slash), and you will see shared folder/printer on this computer.

Put the files you want to transfer in a shared folder.
The folder should be present in "my network places" on the destination PC. Open it and copy files to a local folder as normal.

you will need the ip address of the other pc,,, go to Start->Run and type // followed by the ip address,,, you will get a list of shared folder of the other pc,,, if you have the right to make changes to any of these folders you can copy your files there.
