Did you ever consider that for sick people, cleaning the house isn't one of the top priorities? Not to make excuses to cover for filth- but if somebody needs a home health nurse to visit, they aren't in condition to be playing Martha Stewart. Meth addicts, well, you already know their main priority isn't cleaning the house. I used to work on an ambulance, and I've seen plenty of filthy people and houses. The race isn't the determining factor- it's how lazy some people are. If somebody doesn't care enough to take care of their own body, why on earth would you think they'd take care of where they lived?

Lotso people have nasty, yucky homes these days. Taking pride in your own home seems to have gone away. Instead, people now don't spend much time at home and when they do, they are too busy wasting time at the computer or in front of the TV.

I have spent up to THREE WEEKS working several hours a day to clean up a single house or apartment after the tenants have gone. It is obvious that the places were NEVER cleaned the whole time the people lived there. YUCK. Often the only clean things in the whole house are the clothes in the closets and the unused cookware in the cupboards. Everything else is a stinky filthy mess.

How people can live like this I will never understand. Must be why some people are never home very much -- too embarrassed to even be in their own house or apartment but yet too lazy to clean it up. It happens in all neighborhoods, all levels of income, all ethnic backgrounds, all types of families. There is no pattern to why some people clean their homes and others do not. Habitual drug use definitely affects things negatively. The users care more about the drugs and getting more than they do anything else, so cleaning the house is definitely the LAST thing they will ever think about.

My sympathy to you as a home-healthcare nurse. No doubt you have seen it all by now. If not, you soon will. Remember to wash your hands often -- and then do it again as soon as you exit the home. Carry bottles of hand sanitizer at all times.

1. almost any house with pets in the home will smell nasty. And if the people living with the old folks don't clean up after them, they probably don't clean up after the pets.

2. maybe most of the white people's homes you visited that have someone living with them--the person is probably holding down a job, just like you. So would you find it easy to come home and have to take care of an elderly person too?

3. hopefully, you turned the meth addicts in to child services for leaving their kid alone, and turned them into the police for being meth addicts.

4. if the elderly person lives alone, and you are coming in there to care for them, you should find out what resources they have to help them with cleaning, etc. Old people that can't care for their self cannot clean a house their self either.

5. dementia causes people to not notice smells or being clean

6. were their any other races that had nasty homes, OR just white people?

What a bigotted question and get off your high horse trying to say it wasn't. I have been in all races of peoples homes and found that there are slobs in every race as well as those that perpetually clean. I also believe that you should have some form a a hippocratic oath not to bad mouth those that you serve. Shame on you as a human being and whatever race you are you are a discredit to it. I would never make a blanket statement about any race, and particularly not those that for obvious reasons of your attendance, are ill.

And while we are on the subject, my mother broke her leg recently and her home nurse would come out 3 times a week to take her blood pressure and to gossip. What laziness. And my mother was charged $150 dollars a day for this. I suppose that means all home care nurses are thieves and lazy.

Yup right.
stuff it.

I am a home health care nurse too- and have seen and smelled it all! Did you turn the meth parents over to child protective services for leaving the kid alone?? Seems like the filthiest ones are the ones there are the most of- like we have mostly hispanic and white here-I have seen the trash, animals and all that- IT is probably relative, and a pity-some just don't take care of themselves or home-and can be so non-compliant-I Think some have undiagnosed depression and are stuck.D

If I have to work in such a profession I would seek a new one real fast. Sickness can originate from this type of environment. All races have this type of living enviroment to a certain extent with color not being a factor. Being involved with a profession as health nurse with social contact in the public you are subjet to see even more horrible things than this. It seems the beginning for you. Some of your job duties should include reporting things to the adult and child protective services in your community and the police official for the meth addicts you sited of report all to your boss and let them take it from there.

I used to work as a domestic cleaner and I was often shocked at how dirty some houses were, and just like you, I found it was often the nicest houses with the most monied people that were dirtiest.
Like toilets that hadnt been cleaned in YEARS!! yet it was a mansion, with the lady outside wearing lovely clothes, hat etc, doing weeding looking like a painting!!!
And it seemed the people who had worked hard for their stuff were the cleanest , the ones who were born to it were dirtiest, often animals were a big contributing factor (race never was, although 90% of my clients were white)
I figured some people maybe think they are too good to clean.

If you are caring for someone that cant do for themselves then their children or other relatives should have enough respect to come over and clean the house and they know the nurse is coming...That's how they do throw their relatives away that cant do for themselves and not even look back....Then someone thats no kin to them has to care for them...That's nasty. As for the handicapped child all u can do is pray and care for him to the best of your abilities.I guess the meth has so much control over them that they would leave their own child by themselves especially if they're handicapped.........Living in those kind of conditions is just unsanitary and disgusting

Perhaps the fact that you are a home nurse means that generally you visit people with problems. One problem leads to another. I mean a house full with dog poo will eventually create some illness in there and they'll have to call you. Meth addicts will give birth to a problem child and they call you. I and my husband have a nice clean home, but you don't come over because we don't need a nurse, because we are clean and keep hygiene measures.

first you wanted this question to be a race issue or you would have title it why do some people so nasty. and if you want to be honest blacks tend to have the dirtiest homes the part of town that has the most black is completely horrible. as you ride down the street shi-t all in the yard when i was in the army i saw better looking homes in warzones that was hit with bombs but that is my opinion and nobody every wants to admit what i say is true it is too unpolitical correct
