Petrol – This is the most common type of fuel used in cars today, and is one of the major causes of global warming. Petrol produces toxic exhaust chemicals such as carbon monoxide, hydrocarbons and different types of nitrogen oxides. These not only contribute to global warming but also to acid rain and can damage human health. Unleaded petrol is the most environmentally friendly form of petrol, but other fuels are now available that will save you money and help the environment.
Diesel – Diesel cars have about a 30% better fuel efficiency than petrol powered vehicles. They also last longer reducing the need to repair or purchase a new car. Diesel vehicles release less carbon dioxide than petrol powered cars, but release more volatile organic compounds and nitrous oxides contributing to ozone smog. Diesel is also produced from non-renewable energy sources, using up the worlds natural resources.
This Proves that Diesel is More environment friendly than Petrol.......

Diesel engine cars create more damage to the environment
than petrol ones, because its fuel emission is very harmful and
toxic to the surrounding atmosphere, especially on plant life.
To demonstrate my case, I happened to carry out a small test
with my friend by using his diesel car to emit the harmful fumes
at a distance of 2 metres onto some flowering plants in his backyard for about 10 minutes. The immediate result was the
plants turned yellow and 'died' without recovering.
This merely shows how it can affect the health of human lives in big cities.

It can be. It depends on the fuel used. Some fuels pollute more than others, and the diesel has the ability to burn a number of different kinds of fuels.
For example, there are biological diesel fuels that tend to produce exhaust that generally tends to be biodegradable and are more friendly to the environment that petroleum-based diesel. These fuels tend to be a bit inefficient, though, and can be fairly expensive.
The most promising automotive development in terms of pollution and efficiency appears to be the hybrid.

A simple test for you...stand by the exhaust outlet from each with the engines running...and you'll know immediately! If you're breathing diesel fumes don't worry about giving up smoking!
