For me the scariest film is the Shining with Jack Nicholson in it - I am yet to watch it all the way through because it freaks me out so much.
Also Stephen King's IT is a bit freaky, but that could just be because I have an irrational fear of clowns anyway - lol.
PMSL at Bette Midler comment!

The Texas Chainsaw Massacre , is one of the best horror movies that I've seen , and it's one of my favorites.

INSPIRED BY A BREATH-TAKING TRUE STORY
I quote this review from http://movies.yahoo.com/movie/1808412006/info
"This movie is everything a horro movie should be. It scared me half to death and gave me chills. The suspense is so great. Much better, in my opinion then the original. (Which I am a fan of!) It is hard to believe, but really you cannot compare the two. They were both based on the serial killer Ed Gein and still have similar plots. But they are a little different. I would suggest anyone to go see this amazing, beautiful film. Everyone did an amazing job with the art and direction of this film. This movie is not like any other horror movie I've ever seen, its better, scarier, thrilling, action-packed edge-of-your-seat movie. It is an INTENSE scary movie. The SCARIEST MOVIE I'VE EVER SEEN. I'm sure you'll like it as much as I did!"
and the horror well be back to theatres in the sequel coming out 06-10-06

It has to be Takashi Shimizu's The Grudge .
Sarah Michelle Gellar & Jason Behr star in this 2004 remake of Ju-On.
An American nurse living and working in Tokyo is exposed to a mysterious supernatural curse, one that locks a person in a powerful rage before claiming their life and spreading to another victim.
Tagline: It never forgives. It never forgets.

The ultimate scariest movie of all times is The Exorcist or Exorcist-The beginning. They say that whoever watches it always becomes unconscious and some friends dared their doctor friend to watch The Exorcist alone in a theatre and when the movie got over, his coat was stuck in his seat and he thought someone was trying to get him like a ghost and he died of heart attack. Remember he was watching it alone in the theatre in the dark.

the original omen film is pretty good, the exorcist and the wicker man -not terrifying but the ending will stick in ur mind - again go for the original not the remake
also i cant remember if its the exorcist 2 or exorcist 3 , its the one about a guy who's a murderer, in a mental institution. I thought it was better than the 1st.

I'd say.. Let's Scare Jessica to Death or the original Amityville Horror.
I love Saw and Saw II and movies like it but don't really consider that stuff scary.

It really depends on what you want from your horror. The Exorcist has to be in the top three still a classic. Ameterville (not sure how you spell it) horror both the original and the re-make and The Ring.
