neither are good.

Communism in its pure form is an unworkable dream. Communism as it exists in fact is a totalitarian nightmare.

Capitalism unrestrained means working 12 hour days 7 days a week for barely enough money to feed yourself. It means 10 year old working right beside you. It means no laws to protect you if you are subjected to dangers on the job. It means no health care. It means poverty for the masses.

Regulated Capitalism, which is what we have in the United States, mitigates most of the ugly aspects of capitalism and provides economic growth to benefit all.

Communism is dying. Communism can not function in an information age and we are living in an information age. It can survive in an industrial age, but the industrial age has been eclipsed by the information age. If communism is better than capitalism, why is it dying? Excesses of capitalism are bad, but money raised via capitalism can do a lot of good, like feeding the hungry or providing funding needed for medical research. Which one is better is kind of irrelevant now as Capitalism is thriving and communism is almost dead.

There are so many examples that prove the superiority of capitalism over communism it isn't funny. Excellent examples include Chile during the 1970's which was a disaster under the communist Salvador Allende, and recovered quite nicely when Pinochet applied the philosophy of Milton Friedman, who in my opinion is the greatest economist of the 20th and the current small part of the 21st century. Other examples included capitalist Taiwan (prosperous) vs communist Mainland China (a disaster under Mao, prospering currently due to moving toward capitalism) another example is South Korea (capitalist and prosperous) vs North Korea (communist and economic disaster). During the Cold War capitalist West Germany was an economic superpower, and communist East Germany was a disaster. The current economies of the "Celtic Tiger" Ireland, and the "Baltic Tiger" Estonia are two more examples of a broken economy fixed by applying the ideas of Milton Friedman. It goes to show you how closed minded the political Left that they think it's even a contest.
PS Communism is not a political system. It is a philosophy that tries to understand history in economic terms (which it does rather horribly) and thus is primarily an economic system. While capitalism is primarily an economic system, it does have strong political consequences, and thus can correctly be referred to as a political system as well.

No it is not
What we are seeing right now is an economical system gone out of control. Countries are no longer lead by their leaders but by the major corporations that back those leaders. The prices of product are rising rapidly, and many corporations will stop at nothing for more profit. Communism is a beautifull idea but it also has its flaws. I think we'll have to start finding a way in between the two if we want to keep the planet running

To make money and live a great lifestyle capitalism is the best economic system in the world. The political system of communism is second to democracy. Democracy is not the perfect system. Its just better than every thing else.

It is the sort of question that usually brings out the beard strokers. Capitalism, has proved over and over again that it is a more suitable system for human beings to operate under. It encourages freedom, allows people to be creative and motivated. It requires built -in checks and balances of course. Communism, destroys the human spirit by removing religion, de-motivating people, and generally levelling everyone to the lowest common denominator. It is a good system for intellectual control freaks. I think Churchill said, " that it is the worst system, except for all the others".

One final point, take no notice of left wing teachers and/or lecturers. They live in a theoretical dream world and still preach left wing/liberal dogma. Communism is the construct of the thinker rather than the feeler.

You aren't old enough to have observed what has taken place? Communism collapsed! The Russian and other members of the USSR didn't have the same standard of living, as those who live in democratic countries. Perhaps the elite did but the masses were not doing too well. Is why it was so difficult for the east Germans to go through the transition, when they were absorbed by the western part of the country. They had never had the opportunity to prosper by their own incentive or volition.

You can´t compare two different things.
You are trying to compare a political ideology with an economic system.
It is possible to have a Communist country on the way to change its economy to capitalism practise.
Your question has no answer.
May be, in your mind, you are thinking of Communism versus social-democracy, or liberal-democracy or just democracy has we understand it now a days in Europe, USA and some other countries.
Besides that there was never a really Communist country, but dictatorships who forgot or, really, couldn't or didn't want to apply the real ideology of Communism.
So far Communism, as we have seen during the XX century was a complete mistake, a total failure.

No, but if communism worked as it should, then commy wins.
Capitalism does widen the gap between poor and rich. Learn from the Soviet experience.

Once the commy started their luck on capitalism, the no of poor soviets have greatly increased. It is true, the food stores shelves are stacked with imported and local food, but people got no money to pay for it.

While still commy, most of the shelves were empty but people always got their government monthly/weekly cards to fill in with their essentials.

In theory, communism is the fairest system, but the population would have little freedom of choice for it to work.American-style capitalism is extremely harsh, but the European-style mixture of capitalism/socialism seems to work pretty well.
