im 19, and i havent been to the gyno yet, i know i should be going by now [im not sexually active, but i will be], but, i dont know how to tell my that i need/want to do, SHE THINKS i should wait till im 21 or something. Is there anyway to even go by myself w/o her knowing (i live in NY, but im under her insurance, does that effect anything?!)

Well, since you're ninteen, you should be getting checked anyways. Normally pap smears start at 18. Explain that you just want to be kept healthy. You could also ask the doctor the next time you go in for a physical or a cold or something if he/she could refer you to a gyno. as a routine check up. When a doctor says you should go, your mom won't ignore it. another option: Since you don't want your mom to know, go some place like planned parenthood, and explain what you want. If they can't help you, they'll know who can.

I'm not sure about the HIPPA laws concerning this -- since you are under her insurance she may get the EOB -- Explanation of Benefits -- and it may include information indicating the provider is a Gynecologist. For example, if the practice is called "Smith Women's Health Center" or something like that, she'll probably cop on. If it's just "Dr. Smith", then she'd only know if she wanted to sleuth around and find out who this Dr. Smith is.
The main thing is that you should see a gyno ANYWAY, whether or not you are sexually active. It's just good self-care. You could have fibroids, endometriosis, dysmennhorhea, or any number of gynocological afflictions that have absolutely nothing to do with sexual activity. Plus that, they are good at teaching you how to check your breasts and stuff like that. If your mom asks, just tell her that you're just keeping good care of yourself -- nothing further. By law, they can't discuss your medical situation unless you sign a waiver SPECIFICALLY designating her as privvy to this info. So don't sweat it. But get thee to the Gyno!

You can go to a women's clinic in your area and she will not know...besides, you are 19 so old enough to go by yourself! To get the insurance card, tell your mom you want to get established with a good GYN now that you're a woman. She doesn't need to know any details

You are NOT a minor and cannot have your records checked by anyone unless you sign a HIPPA Sheet with the names of people you will allow to see your medical records. Go to the GYN - you should be examined, especially if you are planning to have sex - and discuss the various methods of birth control, as well as getting any questions answered. The doctor cannot reveal anything to anyone unless you tell them to - it's the law.

I went at 18. I wasn't sexually active for another year. He told me I would have trouble conceiving and now at 41, I've never been pregnant! You can learn a lot about yourself at this trip! Good luck!

You mention insurance. While my sister and I were still under our mom's insurance, she got our wisdom teeth pulled. It was cheaper on her insurance than it would have been if I'd waited until they gave me trouble...after I finished college and had no insurance. HINT HINT!

If you are on your mothers insurance, it will show up because American laws are stupid especially concerning offspring over th age of 16. If you want you can go to planned parenthood or another clinic and pay without insurance.

Everyone and every pregnancies is different. I have had 4 and everyone was different. I usually starting feeling the flutters around the 25th week and then the movement just got stronger. So just relax and enjoy. Happy healthy baby to you.

If you are that afraid of your Mom at age 19, the first stop is the psychological counsellor, as you and your Mom have neglected your health, mentally and physically, for years!!

Maybe you can go to a free clinic or family planning center. Some places are confidential. You can find it in the phone book.
