There was one major incident that started the rift between Biggie and Tupac...

But one thing you need to know is that there was no war between the East and West before Biggie and Tupac. They were friends, good friends. Tupac helped Biggie land a record deal and improved his skills. And they were close. But then in 1994, a shooting happened. Tupac was shot 5 times. He thought Biggie had something to do with it. And if he didn't have something to do with it, Tupac thought that Biggie knew about it but didn't warn him. So then...at the end of 1994, there was a huge rift between the two. Biggie started copying Tupac's style of rapping, he was insulting him, he dressed like him... This is evident from pictures and from Tupac's song "Hit 'Em Up". There's no real evidence that supports that Tupac really did have sexual intercourse with Faith Evans. The main reason why Tupac suspected Biggie was because of how he was acting that night he got shot. Biggie and Puff Daddy were acting strangely.

So... what caused the rift between Biggie and Tupac?

Perhaps a misunderstanding...
Perhaps Biggie and Puff Daddy did indeed set Tupac up (i truly believe that they did due to professional as well as personal reasons)

I think Biggie was jealous of Tupac. There is no way that one can deny how powerful Tupac was with his lyrics and his activism. He was a great man. Of course, Biggie was great too. But Biggie was more directed towards sex and drinking and stuff like that. But Tupac... he was an intellectual rapper. He rapped about things that actually mattered.

But it's all up for scrutiny and discussion...

Tupac was recording one night at the same studio as the "Bad Boy" artists were and he thought that P.Diddy and Biggie had a connection with the guy who shot him.

I don't know the specific order of things but then Biggie released a song called "Who Shot Ya?" which further made Tupac believe it was him. Tupac came back with "Hit 'Em Up" in which he called out Biggie on everything from sleeping with his wife, Faith Evans, to Biggie's crew Junior Mafia copying Tupac [& his crew]'s style.

I think a majority of it had to do with the media and how much they blew it up.

But yeah...thats a synopsis i guess.
