Well I worked in mechanical engineering and electrical engineering at a senior level and only ever needed to program in machine language , based on Basic, C, Java. The only other use I had was when at college while being taught about using a computer as an aid to help the more complex or repetitious mathematical calculations one needs to undertake when as a designer but then a modern scientific calculator or off the shelf maths package can do all that these days.
