no one can really tell you what the best yarns are because everyones oppinion is different. It really depends on what your making and what kind of textures you want. I would suggest just buying yarns when ever you see them on sale, then you'll have them available to use when you get inspired. I bought this really pretty ribbon yarn almost 2 yrs. ago because it was on sale and I just used this last week, I loved working with it and the end product is just stunning. Build your stash when possible and wait for that yarn to inspire you. You could even buy a nice yarn and use it to embellish some other knit peice and see how YOU like it, form your own oppinion. Ask your family and friends to buy you yarn for your birhtday or christmas and that way you'll have all these beautiful yarns and everyone else would have picked them out so you don't have to worry about making that important choice yourself, they may even be yarns you thought youd never try but you might like them after trying em' out. Good luck on your fibre adventure, don't think like yourself when you shop for that perfect yarn and let your imagination soar.

It really all depends on what it is you want to knit up. There are different kinds of yarn, made of multiple kinds of materials, in various weights, colors, and blends, produced by a multitude of companies. Every knitter has their particular favorite company and yarn type/size, and you just have to decide what yours is. A good wool shop can direct you to the appropriate kinds of yarn for your project, and help you make the decision. You may find you like different companies for different kinds of yarn- as no one company makes the best of everything. Most knitters acquire a stash that contains a bit of it all.
