You should start exercising for a number of reasons. Your lungs ARE NOT healthy if you've been smoking a pack a day, so you need to start doing cardio. That'll also help you maintain your (and prob lose some) weight.

Don't worry about the few extra pounds. The cancer will shed them quickly. If you're already middle aged then you won't have to wait long-the big "C" is right around the corner. Keep on puffing-It's people like you that pay my mortgage.

have lots of protected sex- and make sure that it is good sex. That way, you will be tired to think about anything else. And if that doesn't work, then go workout some more. Good luck--If you put your mind to it. It isn't that hard to do. I did it. So can you.
