Education is necessary in society because we don't want our citizens to be easily manipulated by special interests. We need education to immunize ourselves against advertising (as much as possible) for example.

We need education to permit our citizens to make reasonable choices about their governmental representatives.

We need education to permit our citizens to be able to think for themselves about decisions our government makes, so they can vote the bastards out.

I work with children from a deprived area, so many of them rebel against education. Because of this there is a high rate of teen pregnancy, families are also alot bigger than in more well off areas for example it is not uncommon in the school for children to have five plus siblings. This leads to children living in cramp conditions. These children also roam the streets at night so become very street wise, they know about things that they are not mentally mature enough to understand as being right or wrong. In the area of the school, it is common for the moms to stay at home and care for her brood while dad works, dad often doles out the punishment so the children do not respond to female authority when at school. The children can also lack social skills and struggle to work with their peers, outside school they are roaming the streets remember so they are not being taught at home how to love others etc. This is the experience I have had anyway.

The education makes the nation stronger somehow...
