I have seen guys show off their designer sports jackets and suits by walking about a party with the jacket in hand and strung over the shoulder and some use their physical characteristics and obviously work out in the gym.
I have seen women unbutton a extra button on their blouse and smile as they approach a man they'd like to get to know while other women show off their jewelry.
What works for you as a man/woman...?
Or do you have another technique or style to meet someone at a bar/party...?

Every one is different but what works for me is that by keeping a pleasant expression on my face I appear to be friendlier than most other people and makes it easier for others to approach me. A smile in the direction of a person that you like also helps. I don't mean walking around grinning all over the place like a crazy fool.

Well my friend this will get you a varied amount of responses (i hope) but I'm sure that my advice will also help. Its not about your jacket, shoes, or car. I had one friend who would always place his keys in plain view of a girl so that she would know he drove a Porsche, howd that work out for him you ask, he's still chasing tail and never gets the girl he wants. Be honest with yourself. What are you comfortable doing as a first encounter to create chemistry with someone who doesn't know you? For me its a simple joke. When approaching a female at a bar, usually a group, instead of interrupting or barging in I wait for a break and will wander in and make a joke about anything. I'm decent at the joke making, but I have fell on my face numerous times. The point being that even when I fail I didn't do anything that feel ashamed about, and I can chalk it up to not being the best of time. If you comedy is not your thing ask a question. Avoid yes or no, because they probably say no on reflex sometimes without listening to you. Have you seen my friend...? I'm sorry do you know who the server is here? Questions beget more questions and if can get two or three in before you know it the world is yours. Women are not gonna sleep with your car, nor are they going to fall in love with a jacket. Be yourself champ. It seems to me any female in right mind should find something of interest to talk with you about. Happy hunting. Cheers

Getting an eye contact is better than them all. If that do not work try bumping into him and see what reaction you will get and you can take it from there. This will also generate some of his persoanlities for you. It can start things off or it may end your reason of him appealing to you.

unbutton extra buttons ? No way... :)
I have big brown eyes.. and i love to accentuate them by using nice make up.. and when i like a guy i make direct eye contact, when i do that my eyes become wider and for some reason guys get fixated on it.. :)
i like it when guys make eye contact and dont go looking at anything else.. you know what i mean.. :)
recent scientific studies shows that we tend to get attracted to those who make eye contact with dilated pupils. It works for me like a wonder. :)
as for guys, i like the simple clean look. nothing fussy or showy.
