I fear for the checks and balances. Apparently Bush thinks he is not only head of the executive branch, but the legislative branch as well. Close to 0 Democrats are in Congress too, which is an all-time record high concentration of one single party in Congress.

The system of checks and balances was made before political parties existed. In fact, Washington in his farewell address warned against them. So really the checks and balances have nothing to do with political parties. It has to do with the balance of power between the judical branch, the legislative, and the executive.

Republicans think "checks and balances" means write unlimited checks to corporations and the military and forget balancing the budget.

That doesn't seem to concern most people who are Republican. In fact, they take it so far as to call anyone who is not Republican also unpatriotic. What crap!
