We usually feel guilty when we did something wrong. However, even if we were not the guilty party, we sometimes still have that guilt in us. Why? Well, it is due to our mind processes that have gone through scenarios of evil deeds or bad thoughts. It is normal as everyone has those moments that they feel like doing something that is unatural for a good person to do. The only thing that matters is actually how we control our own actions. It is always best not to commit anything against our conscience and let no one convince us of doing otherwise.
We can also feel guilty of not doing something or not doing something more. There are things or people who really matter to us and if anything happen to these people or things...we usually feel upset. We let our emotions get the better of us. This is also normal. Yet, after some time, we must move on and remind ourselves that things happen for a reason. We just don't know it yet. Hope this helps!

We feel guilty for we are toughed some basics moral standards from our parents. Human kind is a social kind and it is also in our nature to socialize. Trough the act of socializing we are saying or doing things that we feel are appropriate for certain moment or situation. How ever if later we feel that we have done wrong to somebody then we feel guilty for we are (most of us) toughed or shaped to be good to another person.

Firstly, "FEELING GUILTY IS IMPORTANT"
Guilt is an emotion from God. It's a signal. It's a road that can lead to heaven. How? Read on!
Every human being has an inner person-the soul living within him. This soul is actually a person whom we talk to when depressed and ask for questions about life.
This soul is also a messenger for God. This is why praying calms us down-feeling guilty and asking for forgiveness calms us down because we achieve piece with our soul.
So if you feel guilty for something you did, sort it out else tht guilt can also eat you.

Guilt is an emotion that we experiences when we have done something wrong. Sometimes it's known to be wrong before hand, or discovered later. Shame is an emotion that we experience over what we are. Young children often feel shame over themselves and grow up never knowing the cause. They blame the feelings on circumstances, but often, it is not the circumstances, rather than the angst of their own existence. It's hard for me to explain the difference to someone who may have never experienced shame, because it is often confused with guilt.

I used to wonder that. I used to think it was a conscience. But then I realized other people could put guilt on me and I didn't diserve it. So why does one feel guilty?
I'd say because we care about others and want to treat them right. We need to remember to treat ourselves right and refuse guilt

Guilt is an emotion which allows us to stay within the boundaries of society. If we (or our ancestors) didn't feel guilt, we would do things that would get us in touble (and would've gotten our ancestors killed). Guilt evolved as human societies started to form. People who do not have the genes to produce neural pathways for the experience of guilt are called sociopaths. They tend to become murderers and lawyers. Imaging their brains using fMRI shows distint differences between them and normal people. Sociopaths can do well in environments where they are able to use people, abuse them, and move on without anyone knowing (more of them are in modern society, not ancestral society). Guilt prevents you from doing stupid things which hurt your reputation and could cause others to seek revenge on you - both critically important things to humans as societies evolved over the last 10,000+ years.

your environment teaches you what you should think is right and wrong. Your intelligence hopefully will over rule some of those teachings, but guilt feelings can be deeply hidden and pop up even if you are doing the right thing, but mama said it was wrong 50 years ago.
