I guess it would depend on your application, but we use "Rotella T" in our Detroit Series-60 motor for our 18-wheeler. We also add 1 gallon of "Lucas Oil" in place of 1 gallon of "Rotella T" every other oil change to add extra lubrication to the motor. But our diesel engine is pulling 40 tons, 600 or 700 miles a day, 6 or 7 days a week.

For diesel cars, the type or brand of engine oil would be either
Castrol GTX 15W/50 or Duckhams Magnetic 15W/50. These
two types, so far, are suitable and reliable for all diesel car
engines.

In general if you use an oil made specifically for diesels (e.g Rotella)
you will be fine
