Each team has a list of plays. For each play, every player has a per assigned job to do (like who to block, where to run ect.). So when the QB calls a play, blue 35 wag 2, the wide receivers knows what route to run.

on the play that's been called, he should know your route already, and the same with an audible, but you should both be reading the coverage, and making the same adjustments, just based on practice and the playbook. or, he might signal to you the route he wants you to run, but not the other way around

As wide reciever it is not your job to decide which route to run. That is the what your playbook is for and that is the QB's job to call the play. So shove your WR ego in your pocket and study the playbook....GOD I HATE OFFENSE PRIMADONNAS GRRRRRRR, KILL EM... KILL EM ALL....

oops sorry my inner linebacker got loose again!!

He should be reading the defense and signaling to you.
