I went over 2 my friends house and he has a set of 50 pound dumbells he claims he can curl them but he wont show me I think they r his dad prolly but anyway that sound like alot for anyone to curl because whenever I try I cannot pick even one of them up? Is this a lot of weight to do bicep curls with?

50 pounds is a lot of weight to lift with dumbells, let alone curl them. Either your friend is very strong, and an experienced weight lifter (doubtful, or he'd look like it!), or the weights are his dad's (it's a lot of weight even for a large adult), or perhaps the dumbells are used for an exercise other than curls? Maybe shoulder shrugs, or something like that. If he refuses to lift the weights in front of you to prove it, it's likely that he can't, just as you can't.

50 Pound Dumbbells

Hey buddy

yeah I must admit a 50 lb dumbell is pretty heavy - but the important question here would be how many reps he can do with it. I curl a 50 lb dumbell for 7 reps during mu dumbell curls. My arms are 18.2 in when pumped and flexed.

As for your previous question re 18 inch arms, I think I can help. yes you can certainly get them if you work out hard enough but this would take you 1.5-2 years at least. So set short term goals in between, alongside keeping your focus on your long term goal.

I was underweight as a teenager (6'2" and 59 Kgs- now I weigh 91 Kgs and mostly muscle) so I believe nothing's impossible.

Here are my tips:
# Have short, intense and heavy workouts with minimum rest between sets. Do not do sets with more than 4 reps per set - if you can do more than 4, your weight is too light for a hardgainer.
#Conserve your energy by avoiding caffeine to the extent possible and completely avoiding cigarretes and drugs. Dont drink if possible but do it only moderately if you must (I am a teetotaller). Dont ever binge drink as it will destroy a month of your weight training efforts. Get enough sleep as the body produce GH (Growth Hormone) when you sleep.
# Supplement with creatine - load with 20g X 7 days and 5-7 g a day post that. Take the creatine in warm water immediately after your training blitz - not before.
# Take whey / casein protein and consume good amount of quality proteins (chicken/milk/eggs/whey/casein/soya) 6 times a day - your diet is as important as your workout.
#Rest your arms for 72 hours before training them again as overtraining can reduce gains significantly.
#increase your weights every month but not too frequently as you may injure yourself.
#do a moderate amount of cardio exercises- dont overdo it but dont ignore it either.

You are most welcome to write to me if you want more workout tips - anything for a fellow weight trainer!

Heres a final tip - TRAIN HARD OR GO HOME.

Cheers man.

I use to tell my kids I was superman. It was easy to impress them when little. My daughter told my grandson now he wants a demo. I started curling in my basement when no one is around I am pleasantly surprised that I could one arm 40lbs a couple times. I am using 35 to work out (one arm) my goal is to try to get to 90lbs one time right handed. something I could do back in high school. I am glad to find out that at 61 I can get improvement as easy as I am.

If you use both arms, I think you should be able to lift her with no problem. I
