Ever since Lion King, which, in my opinion, was the last great 2-D (with a little 3-D) animation, Disney has steadily gone downhill. With a few exceptions like Pocahontas, Mulan, Brother Bear and Lilo & Stitch, flicks churned out from the House of Mouse are beginning to suck...reaaal bad (just watch Home on the Range or Chicken Little to get the idea). The last straw came when they trashed their 2-D animation branch in favour of the new-fangled 3-D one in a bid to 'embrace' new technology and keep up with the competitors. Burning one's bridges is never a good option. They've also lost sight of the story, look at their shameless rip-off from Shrek in Chicken Little (sorry Chicken fans, I'm bashing this movie, it's too short, too lame, and too stupid).
Now they've got all these direct-to-video sequels of the classics, which only does the originals a great disgrace. Pocahontas 2, Mulan 2, Cinderella 2, Hunchback of Notre Dame 2, Bambi 2, Aladdin 2: Return of Jaffar, Lilo and Stitch 2: Stitch has a Glitch, Brother Bear 2, the ridiculous list goes on. The only good sequel I can think of was Toy Story 2, and Disney nearly screwed it with a direct to DVD release if Pixar didn't intervene and send it to box-office glory at the cinemas.
Now Pixar, this untouchable studio is in a league of its own. It keeps pumping hit after hit after hit, I LOVE Finding Nemo and Cars especially. Sadly, now that Disney has taken over Pixar, I can only cross my fingers they will not interfere too much with Pixar's amazing storytelling capabilities.
Disney has got to clean up its act and realise it's all about the story, and not fancy-schmancy special effects. And stop making uninspired sequels for a quick buck!
That's all I have to say.

I completely agree.
The Lion King will always be one of the classics. It's just such a great film. No Disney movie has ever really beat The Lion King in my opinion. Of course, Pocahontas was great as well as The Little Mermaid and Alladdin and the elusive Beauty and the Beast.
But they've just been getting worse and worse and worse.
I have to admit that i've lost interest in Disney. They don't really have anything great to offer.
Pixar however... Now that is an entirely different story. I think of Monsters Inc, A Bug's Life, Finding Nemo, Toy Story... Those are really great movies with amazing graphics and pretty good storylines.
But then again, there's Dreamworks with Madagascar and Shrek and Shark Tale and Antz.
Therefore, Disney has defenitely faded in the past years which makes me sad because they used to be wonderful but now...
Out with the old and in with the new.

I agree that Disney movies are not as good as the old days, but that's what all old timers say. They are trying to keep up with the times. Walt Disney himself was the visionary who started everything & you cannot copy his personal sucess. The Disney people seem to try to make the movies a bit more for kids today, to try to keep up with all the other companies that are putting out movies (like Nick).
Just like Barbie, Disney may be on a downward slope.

It just seems as if they ran out of ideas so they decided to capitalize on a movie that was considered good at one point. It is sad because I grew up watching those movies(when they were actually quality movies.) and Beauty and the Beast was my favorite one(I can still sing all the songs from the movie). Granted there were some movies that came out such as the Incredibles that I did like but nothing else since then really.

Yes, I would have to agree that the Disney movies certainly aren't getting any better. I mean, once you make a full-length animation movie of every famous fairytale there is, how can you expect to get any better after all the other companies come in and invend this 3D animation? So no, it's not just you.

I think Pixar raised the bar. Disney's old school and can't compete. The movies they made that were good will always be classics but they can't be as competative anymore. Audiences expect more.

i think that they are using the reputation of the first movie, to make it easier on them selves advertise and stuff, it's like they are sure people loved the first so why not, add some more millions by having a stupid second one.... "isn't all about the money anyway...."
so why would they care....

Well I think it is the same with nickelodeon. When we were younger we loved it, now that we are older we find fobth things to be idiotic. It is just brain development.
