Brian, Brian, Brian. Thanks for your e-mail, I think. Overnight your urinary bladder collects urine. As the bladder fills, pressure on the blood vessels of the penis increases raising blood pressure in the penis and resulting in engorgement and thus erection. Another reason is that during sleep both males & females often have an arousal period before waking but in men, it's obviously more obvious.

I tried to e-mail you back but your address hasn't been confirmed in Yahoo and no one can e-mail you. This is fixable but you're the only one who can fix it.

ive read before that during slumber, your bladder fills with urine, but you usually will not release it until you wake up hours later. the build up of urine causes the bladder to reach capacity and sometimes the urine will even begin to occupy the urethra. this is what initiates the morning wood. that's why when you wake up with it, you also have to pee, and you have to decide, should i pee first or take care of the wood. if you pee first, you may find that your arousal has disappeared when you are finished. cant remember the article, but thought it was interesting.

A couple more reasons...

Your mind is still active while you are asleep, and often a man will have dreams/thoughts/etc. that create the "wood." That, combined with the friction of being in bed create "da wood."
