Both of my boys have/had it. They were given liquid Zantac. Lying them on their backs after eating can make it worse. My pediatrician suggested putting a tablespoon or so of rice cereal in the bottles with the formula, something about it being thicker is supposed to help. Also, make sure to burp him/her well after feedings. It will ease up eventually, best wishes, I know it's hard to see your little one in pain.

Wow, it sounds like you've got a bad case of reflux! You also may have a hiatal hernia or a stricture, so it's a good thing you're going to see a doc! In the meantime, make sure you keep your head elevated when you go to bed, with 2-3 pillows. Make sure you eat very slowly and wait a minute or two after swallowing to take your next bite of food...and chew it up GOOD!. For now, stay away from sticky foods like bread and pasta, drink plenty of fluids (slowly) and try taking some over-the-counter meds like Pepcid or Zantac about 20 minutes before you eat. Good Luck!

Everyone has given most of the suggestions I would give. I just went to the doctor for my 8wk old w/ acid reflux. We started Enfamil AR and double the Mylicon dose in every bottle. It seems to be helping....alot! He was miserable all of the time and spitting up about 7 or 8 times each bottle (puddles, not just a little), and now he spits up just once or twice and seems much more content. We started this 4 days ago and it's really helped. We go back to the doctor in a week, and I'm hoping to keep him off the medication unless he really needs it. Good luck to you, I know how hard it can be.

my son was given Liquid Tagament.(3 times a day)
Also we added "cereals" to his formula, 1 tbsp. per 2 oz.
I suffer from GERD myself, and my doctor told me that yogurt
also helps to "neutralize Acid".
Try propping the legs of the crib up about 6 inches.Just on the end under the head.
Trying to change the babies diaper was real hard also. He would scream all the time. Try to keep the upper part of the body propped up, and dont bend their legs too far back.
Also when "burping". do not burp over the shoulder. This small amount of pressure on their tiny stomachs, can contribute to "reflux".
Also we were told to Feed smaller amounts..More often.

Good luck, and just be patient.

For my baby boy they perscribed Zantac and Prevacid, he had the worst reflux and these did not work for him. Soothing my baby myself was the best. It was very hard to see him in pain and throwing up so much, but there is not much you can do. It always stayed the same, it never got worse or better. The only thing we could do it just wait until he grew out of it and he did. He is 4 months now and doing fine.

I'm not sure how old your son is, but if he is young enough, let him sleep in his bouncy seat or swing. If you let him sleep at an angle this will probably help. My son also has this and this what I found to work. I don't have him on any drugs and believe he gets it bad sometimes. I don't know what kind of formula you are feeding him, but stay away from the regular soy formula. If he has to have the soy formula, give him the organic soy formula, only. My son does great on this. When I burp him, he just has a little one and is done.

My baby was put on Prilosec. It helped a lot and she was able to come off it at 9 months with no problems.

The worst part of it is to have a pharmacy make this compound for you. It always seems to take days to get them to measure a few teaspoon fulls of medicine together, a real "hassle" for them. I am sure I am not the first one to bring in a script for a baby!!

both my boys had it.my 4year old was put in hospital with it when he was only 4weeks old.thickened milkfeeds with food thickner brought from your chemist or special thickened formula. try and prop baby up after a feed in a bouncer or something like that, prop you babies bed up so they are not lying flat.when you change you babies nappies dont lift their legs up and squash their tummy roll them to one side.both my boys had liquid zantac it helped with the pain but didnt stop them throwing up.once your baby can sit up by themself and they have started solids it should start to ease, but it wont go away until about 12months.good luck i know how hard it can be having a reflux baby

For my youngest (who was a premmy so it didn't help) we had Gaviscon to put in her milk every feed but after a good few months of getting nowhere we changed her milk to see if she had a lactose intolerance (changed from b/fing to sma Wysoy) and this seemed to do the trick. Maybe worth mentioning to your health visitor, I hated the thought that I couldn't b/f but she just couldn't digest my milk so we had to change. Good luck.
