I'm an Army veteran who served in Iraq...not that that makes any difference. Just because someone didn't serve in the armed forces shouldn't mean they can't voice their opinions as Americans. In fact, I joined the military to protect that right, among other reasons.
I do think Chavez is a bad leader, because he restricts the rights of free speech and property in his county. I do no think gas prices absolve him from criticism, either. His country is a major producer of oil, and the Venezuelan government probably subsidizes their gasoline distributors. In most respects, the Venezuelan economy had performed poorly under Chavez.

What good does it do to have gasoline for 17 cents a gallon when you can't afford to buy even a used car. 80-85 % of the country is poor. Go visit Venezuela and tell me you would like to live there under their conditions. By the way, I spent over 6 years in the military - so I have been around too. I wouldn't care to live under Chavez's rule - I prefer the American way of life.

Most people believe what they hear, but Venezuela is actually the most democratic country in south America with about 24 political parties. Now since they speak Spanish people automatically think is just like Mexico in poverty or since Chavez hang with Fidel he's a dictator. Although he has done things to take control of his country that are similar to what bush has done here.

If you know that the oil was nationalized then why would you present such a question? Some people seem to fail to follow up on the rationale or the ability of nationalization to do what ever it wants. At the expense of the people..

from everything ive heard hes a great leader and has done great things for his country in going against the grain of "new world order" ... if only the US govt would follow his example this country could get its greatness back instead of being swallowed up by money hungry vultures of the globalist elite.
