If you want to burst his bubble and tell him he will not be able to become a dinosaur, you might as well go the whole 10 yards and tell him who santa is, who the tooth fairy is, and while you are at it explain the Easter bunny.
Then explain how come I decided to turn into a street the other day and had no trouble...

At that age, there's nothing wrong with pretending and imagining. Just leave him alone. You might even play along and say something like "a dinosaur?! But you'd be too big/loud/scary"- in a joking tone, of course. Then just leave it alone. He'll grow out of it eventually. He's only 4.

If you can be Marilyn Monroe, he can be a dinosaur.
When he has kids of his own, and they get into the teen thing of wanting to express their individuality by being just like everybody else grabbing on to that year's latest fadhe'll try to reason with them.
THEN, they'll see him as a dinosaur!

Why break his heart? Give him a break, this is just a temporary phase. He will not go into college thinking he can be a dinosaur. He'll figure it out on his own and it won't hurt as bad as having his dreams squashed.

most kids have far out ideas. what does it hurt? he will eventually grow out of it. this is the happiest time of his life, as u know life gets harder and harder. i still dream impossible dreams, it helps take me away from all the bull. in reality i have a really good job and am responsible. i envy ur son the freedom of thinking anything is possible. my daughters are teens now and i would give anything to go back to days of innocence. soon ur son will be to busy to hang with mom and dad take advantage of it. let him be a kid while he can.

take him to a zoo or a farm and show him baby animals with the parents. at four he may not catch on but the thought will be planted in his subconscious. at this age i would not come right out and say it. he is developing his imagination and creativity. as soon as he becomes interested in something else he will want to grow up to be that. don't be to down to earth with him at this age. repressed desires and dreams are the material that social misfits are made of.

lmao...my lil brother wanted to be a dinosaur too! i remember my dad used to get mad at us (me and my older brother) when we used to laugh at him. a couple years later he basically had a more realistic career goal. its just a phrase they'll grow out of. if your son wanted to be an actor or the president would you tell him that its' a silly dream too?
