Ok, this might seem stupid to you, but I need help with science homework. "Why must you be careful when you are focusing the high-power objective lens? What precautions should you take?" I don't know why I can't figure this one out, can you guys help me out?

As the above said, you may damage both the lense and the sample you are examining under the microscope if you are not careful while focusing the lense. The best way to prevent damage is to move the lense as far down without looking into it (look from the side so that it goes down as far as it'll go without causing damage), then slowly bring it up to focus it. This prevents the possibility of damage.

You have to be careful otherwise you will jam the lens into your sample. Focus it slowly which will help catch things within a limited range of focus.
