The Founding Fathers were liberals, I'm sorry guys but in their time they were incredibly "progressive" and forward thinking. Ben Franklin was an international traveler who particularly liked the French. Thomas Jefferson believed that governments should be over thrown at least once a century to have the best possible government. Sam Adams was a drunk and protested all the time. Infact, the entire Second Continental Congress were all liberals, and all about protesting their government. Not to mention the Bill of Rights, mostly importantly freedom of speech and freedom of religion. Liberals uphold all of these things, so what exactly is it that makes us so unpatriotic? The fact that we don't think that all Muslims are terrorists? The fact that we think health care should be under "the pursuit of happiness?" The fact that we don't want the government to screen our calls and read our e-mails??? All of these things are VERY American and VERY patriotic. So what's the deal?

Way to blab on about Christians in one paragraph and resort to swear words and name-calling in the other, honestly would Jesus agree with that?

No intelligent liberal wants to take away the second ammendment, infact I agree with you, however the Founding Fathers did not live in the time of automatic weapons. Certain guns no citizen has the need to own.

Deacon - Yes, Jesus Christ was a liberal, and honestly if He came back tomorrow I don't think he'd want anything to do with the USA at all, but remember that he traveled with people that were considered dirty, low society, and of low morals, and he openly defended prostitutes (remember the story...he who casts the first stone?)
And he would certainly want nothing to do with our current administration, that is for sure.

The conservatives on here say we are unpatriotic because they are mindlessly repeating what the cons on the right-wing radio and blogs say. Republicans have a vested intrest in branding anyone who disagrees with them as unpatriotic. It helps them win elections.
The fools on here who repeat that crap are just suckers in the conservative con game. Feel sorry for them.

The definition of progressive in 1776 and 2006 is not even from the same universe. Our forefathers wanted representation in government and democracy decided by the people. Progressive now means that you don't believe in anything that won't fit under a microscope, you think everyone deserves to be handfed by the government regardless of their work ethic (hint, hint, communism) . That 5th grade children need to be taught about oral sex and given condoms instead of morals. That two men having anal sex is acceptable, and that there should be no established accountability to your fellow citizens for your actions. You need to ask yourself this question, " What is the definition of democratic behavior? The behavior that progressives prefer, or the behavior that will preserve a democracy". Zell Miller delievered a superb keynote speech at the RNC in 2004 and he is a democrat who is fed up with the direction the Dems are headed. Jesus Christ was a liberal. Do you think he would agree with the way most liberals live today?

The Founding Fathers established that all rights derive from property. The instance you say free health care makes it a contradiction in terms, because 'free' health care is paid by taxation on the public, now why should I pay for some dupe who refuses to get a job and suddenly wants free health care from MY own pocket ?
In that sense they were very conservative
Moreover they also founded the second amendment something Liberals seem failing to uphold. Why don't I have the right to protect myself? Liberals seem to think only the government should have the right to use guns and what if that government decides to turn to despotism what can I do now?
*Remember before Hitler was in power Germany was a democracy as soon as he came in power he banned all private ownership of guns as to stop the citizens from rising against the goverment .

I unquestionably have a feeling you do no longer want to understand! Liberals, in easy terms component to the Democratic occasion, have faith that the "equipment" is there for each individual, no longer in easy terms an extremely few. you haven't any longer any issues of people who trouble-free 26.5 MILLION a 12 months getting tax cuts, yet you're against paying human beings minimum salary! unfastened employer works the two tactics, yet no longer in accordance on your ilk. you may scouse borrow from the damaging, and scouse borrow from the taxpayers, who're no longer the wealthy, and then element a finger at them and say that is they who're the undertaking! the undertaking are self-prevalent, narcissistic Conservatives, who takes government handouts their total life, and experience they owe no longer something to those who gave it to them with the sweat of their hard paintings, no longer some shareholder! You get wealthy off of the damaging, you pay so little that purely approximately a million/2 of the individuals who're homeless have an entire time activity. You, and those such as you, are the undertaking, no longer the answer!

Don't forget slave owners too! The Republican party was started to end slavery and to expand the west remember Lincoln? Remember Manifest destiny? Very progressive to slaughter Native Americans and take their lands. The point is no matter which side of the isle you are on the other side will look like they are wrong. You can always find something to bicker about. Which gets us nowhere.

I'm not sure that you can qualify the "Founding Fathers" as liberal. That term became prevalent in 1814 at Versailles to figure out what to do after Napolean. Now as for Progressive and Freeethinker , you are closer to the mark.
As for beimg "unpatriotic", that's a term used when you think outside of your nation's self interest.

I know. Since when protesting against the government or the President himself is unpatriotic? Isnt it our duty as the people to check, criticize and ensure that the government is really serving the people and the nation at its best, and not other interests?
Maybe they just need to do a check on 'patriotism' in the dictionary.

My theory of Liberals being Unpatriotic:
1. A few rich idiots stuck a broom up Fox News' bu-tt
2. Fox News jumped up and down because of the pain
3. Conservatives watching Fox thought it was cool
4. Conservatives goes to work on Monday with brooms stuck inside all of thier bu-tts
5. Conservatives calling Liberals chickens and Unpatriotic because Liberals refused to stick broom up liberal's bu-tt too

You are correct, this is America and you have the right to choose your own political beliefs for yourself. You have made some valid points here. We are all in this together. We should start to realize we are all on the same team. Variety is what makes our country great. We have freedom, and that means we may not always agree. I love my country, and if you do too, then I don't care what you believe, your okay in my book.
