Swimming is a most natural event once you have learned. You never forget. HOWEVER, you may not have used those muscles in a very long time, so I won't suggest that you go out on your own in deep waters. I suggest that you see how you do swimming in the shallower waters, can you safely reach the other side without stopping? Remember, if you get tired doing the crawl, you can turn over and continue flutter kicking or you can use different muscles and do the side stroke... yes? So, you should feel a bit confident with what you already learned.
A half hour swim class depends on the instructor, and how long you get to practice what is being taught. I'm sure that the instructors and those that put the classes together have worked out the logistics of lecture/practice time. Normally, everyone is lined up as the instructor introduces the skills and allows the students to practice while he/she corrects and makes suggestions. It works out fine.
Insofar as your particular "female" question, speak with the school nurse; that is something that can be resolved easily enough. 27/28 years of experience in teaching all levels of swimming (and lifesaving) and I can assure you that the programs are usually very well organized and planned in schools, Ys and other organizations for the most part (I never ran into one that compelled me to voice a complaint or make a report).

Swimming lessons are fine in 30 minute increments. If you are looking at private lessons, then pay for the hour. Basically you are old enough to listen to the instructor and do what is asked without playing around and distracting the class as young children are.If you can only afford a 30 minute lesson, consider staying after or going later for an open swim to put to practice what you worked on that day in class.
As for tampons, try them, tampax has a slender fit size made for teens. Or if you don't like the idea of an applicator, try OB which you insert with your fingers. Periods are a major pain in the rear and once you get used to tampons, the less a pain they become, especially when swimming. Give it a few times and keep in mind it will take a lot of practice to sit comfortably. To this day If one isn't comfy (and you know immediately) I'll yank it out and try again with a new one. It's so much better than feeling like you're wearing a loaded diaper!

It is difficult to answer, it all depends on your ability and concentration span. A child's concentration span lasts only 5mins and an adults only 15mins, so to remain engaged is very difficult.
By the sound of it you aren't a beginner and if you feel the hour lesson would be beneficial then give it a try.
Half hour lessons are normal and a more economical way of swimming for longer is to have your lesson for the half hour and practice post lesson. That way you can progress quicker and practice when the instructions are clear in your mind.
The menstruation factor shouldn't be a problem as i know of many swimmers who swim month round without missing a session and don't suffer, although everybody's different.

Take the 1 hour begginer's lesson it would help a lot. And do not be afraid to swim when your monthly thing comes because when you are in the water it just stops and will resume again after swimming. (I'm 16 and I've been through these stuff already and it was hard but you'll get over it, if your not allowed to, or you can't or afraid to wear tampons then don't because no body's pushing you. Just wear the sanitary napkins. ) ; )

It's difficult to keep focused for a whole hour in a swim lesson,so a half hour is probably better. If you have the time and energy, get some extra practice at free swim.
P.S.Tampons work fine for the swimming pool.

It all depends upon what your goal in taking the lessons is. If you want to compete or something like that then you need more time. If you just want to become a better swimmer then you just need to practice what you learn in the lessons and have the instructor make sure that you are doing the strokes correctly so that you don't develop bad habits when you are practicing on your own.

30 Minute swim lessons are about the average, sometimes they can be up to 45 but most will be 30. If you cant do back to back lessons because of, 'no time', then why do you want more than 30 min???

Good for you for taking swim lessons all. I'm sure whatever you decide will be just fine. You can, try to find an hour class. At 14, you should have plenty of energy and you will learn more..

I didn't think so. I hired a private instructor for an hour and my daughter completed it but was very tired toward the end. Maybe try 45 minutes.
