I don't know your timeframe, so I'm going to guess shorter term (through year end) for now. You can always rebalance as you go.

So, for this timeframe, I like:

Healthcare
BAX, HUM

Broker dealer
MS, GS

Retail
AEOS, ANF, JWN, KSS

I also like AAPL.

Stay out of oil, energy, metals for now

That should get you started.

Hope that helps!

I would need to know what current holdings you have. If you are a buy and hold investor wait until early November then take a look at HRB - its is usually around then HRB will hit is 52 week low - then its buy, buy, buy. I think there is a buy opportunity with either WAG, CVS (which I did buy), and RAD because the street overplayed the announcement of WMT regarding lowering the co-pay for generic drugs on those companies bottom lines. I know for one - I am not going to go to WMT to pick up my perscriptions and I think most people for drugs aren't going to want to wait in lines at a store as large as WMT for perscriptions. It sounds like a horror show and generic drugs do not represent a large enough percentage of WAG, CVS, and RAD to make a different. WMT will find this particular idea flop on them.

If you are looking for a relatively safe investment that is rock solid, look at both JNJ and MMM. Both are trading at near all time low PE ratios. Both have consistant and steady growth in sales and earning and dividends.

For a more conservative investment, check out BAC and C.

If you wish a little more spice in your life, but do not want to bet the farm on any one stock, check out these closed end funds. GCH, a fund that invests in China. Up 41% ytd. CHN another China fund. Up 24% ytd. IIF and IFN invest in India. Up 18% and 24%, but IFN trades at a healthy premium to net assets.
