If I was driving I would drive down the A127 then go on to the A12 at Gallow's Corner
Then you come eventually to the A13 where you walk eastwards - stay on Commercial Road and eventually you come to the Aldgate one way system so you take the road called Minories to the Tower
There are several nice walks in London don't know why you would want to walk from Upminster to the Tower when the route is long and boring and there is a tube train that could take you.
Alternatively use the C2C rail services that go straight in to Fenchurch Street which is 50m from Tower Hill - the trains are more comfortable, make less stops and are much faster. Good luck!

This would be an awfully long walk! Use the tube, the district line goes directly between those two stations.

As you're talking about Essex into almost the centre of London you'll need a good road map, although most of it can be done along the A12 or A13

Why would you walk? Isn't it, like, 10 miles+?
Walk into the station and take a train!

Not sure why you'd want to walk this distance but if you are walkiing, you'll be better off buying an A-Z. That way you can carry it whilst walking.
