I want to major in Spanish, but what other courses or a minor would I need to take in order to find a good career as a linguist?

There are some linguists that work to recognize regionalisms and changes in language, but I think that those jobs are few and far between.

I had an awesome Spanish teacher at the University and he taught linguistics courses in Spanish.

Do you want to teach at the university level? If not I suggest you contact a linguist at the university and talk with them.

There are linguists that work with compiling words for dictionaries and such. Do you want to do linguistics just in Spanish, or are you considering doing this in English as well? There are a lot of things that are happening with the Spanish language in the US. The word carpeta means folder and is now being used as carpet or rug because it is like English. These changes are occurring at a much faster rate than changes occurred in the past. If you study both then you may be able to work with this.

Often linguists work to try to preserve languages so that they are not lost and/or do not morph so much that they become one.
