Of course they want you to buy platinum, it's more expensive than white gold because there is less platinum in the world than gold. They get commission, so the more you spend the more they make.

Platinum is harder than gold, so it won't scratch, dent, or bend as easily. But because it's a harder metal, it's harder to work with too. When you need to have any work done, like resizing, it takes longer, it's more expensive, and there is a greater chance of the metal being damaged.

18K white gold is softer, so you will have to be more careful with it when working with chemicals (doing dishes, cleaning, etc...) and working with your hands (cleaning, working out, etc...) It's less expensive than platinum, but it will only go up in value as gold is a precious metal, always has been, always will be. Platinum is a more recent addition to jewelery metal options, so there is no guarantee that it will hold it's value in the future. When it looses popularity, it will loose it's value. While this isn't an important issue, you may want to consider how you and your husband (current fiance) will feel when it looses popularity and value, and you spent several thousand dollars on a ring that is now worth less than 1/2 of that.

I would go with the white gold, but it's entirely up to you and your fiance.

There is a fairly big price difference because platinum is harder than white gold. The big issue with white gold is that it will get more scratches. However, if you take care of your ring and have it polished you can't tell the difference. You may consider 14K or 10k white gold because it is more resistant to scratches.

you can't tell the difference unless you reallllllllly look. the jeweler might want your money. unless you tell someone, they can't tell by just looking. they look nearly identical. white gold will save you money but it's your preference. you'll be wearing the ring, not anyone else. you will get more value for the ring. i think platinum is a lot heavier, though. i have a platinum engagement ring and am trying to get used to it. i just got engaged. it feels heavy. try both on and see which one you like better. remember, you are the one wearing the ring!

Platnium is a harder metal but there really isn't a look difference. the price is really the only diff. My wifeys wedding ring set is platnium and she has alot of white gold and even silver jewlery and to be honest if she didn't know which ring was which by looking at them there is no difference and if your on a budget I would even go for getting a silver ring cuz it's just as hard as platnium and use the money and get a bigger carat diamond, no one is gonna know the difference but you

i had a "promise ring" made out of white gold and it became blotchy after a 12 months of injury. each ring considering that then has been platinum and that i've got been happy (effective it dings slightly and loses its luster with age, even though it does not seem that undesirable) while you're procuring a hoop on line, make effective that they have got an exceptionally sturdy return coverage. Your ring length unquestionably may well be distinctive counting on how thick or skinny the bands are. as an occasion, you may placed on a hoop that is approximately 0.5 length bigger if the band is unquestionably thick or that is quite uncomfortable.

Platinum may be harder and more resistant to scratching, but it is also a heck of a lot harder to polish the scratches out of platinum than white gold.

The answer above that says while gold is nickel plated is totally wrong. Sorry...

White gold is nickle plated gold. The plating has to be redone every few years. Pricing depends on who you are buying from. Generally independent jewelers charge less than jewelery stores.
