Wash the rodent cage with any soap or bleach you wish. Even put it in the dishwasher. A really good cleaning once in awhile is not going to hurt your pet. While you are at it, wash the water bottle and food dish also. Rodents are also carriers of salmonella so completely cleaning the cage is great.

I have used dish soap on mouse, rat, gerbil and snake aquariums, just not a lot and I make sure to rinse it really well. I have never heard that it is bad, so I assumed it was okay. Just use lots of hot water to rinse so there is no soap residue!

~~the site below tells about cleaning and care of different types of mouse cages... hope you find it helpful...

personally, i would not use a strong soap or a perfumed soap. the little mice lungs can not handle harsh fumes.

use a mild soap and rinse well with cold water.

try this put some dishsoap in the bottom of your sink and try to rinse it out with hot water, use the same amount of soap and try to rinse it down with cold water. time both and you will find that it takes more time to rinse the suds down with hot than with cold. cold water breaks the suds up faster and more thoroughly than hot water. (same for dishes).~~

As long as its with mild soap, like a dishwashing detergent and warm water. Just make sure to rinse it good and let it air dry.

It wont do much for the smell. I use a bleach and water mixture. It kills all the bacteria and therefore destroys the smell. Just be sure to rinse it off thoroughly.
