I personally do not hate the Dixie Chicks.
They just made a bad choice, but I, like you, am not going to say their music sucks because of a political statement (but whether I agree or disagree with the statement is another question).

The Dixie Chicks members surely have every right to express their views on the Iraq war--and they reaped the price for that free expression. When you are in a position of mass exposure to the public, you carry the responsibility for anything that comes out of your mouth, for what is said CAN mean how well your career flies or how fast it falls.
Either the Dixie Chicks didn't realize that or they spoke out in an effort to "minimize" their level of fame because what they experienced at the time was too much effort than they realized.

This should explain where those people are coming from:
One of the dixie chicks said something several years ago that was deeply insulting to the president (that she was ashamed she and the president were from the same state).
A lot of people feel a very close, personal connection to the president, especially during the years since 9/11. If the Dixie Chicks personally insulted your close friend, would you think about not listening to their music?
People feel that same connection to the president, so their reaction is actually pretty reasonable The music itself is not bad, but listening to it reminds some people of that insult.

I don't hate them, I Just Don't Hear their music (it's not all that good). They should have opened there mouth on American soil about President Bush. I wasn't a Dixie Chicks fan before the statement and still not.

The Dixie Chicks alienated their base of support when they began expressing opinions that generally oppose those of their traditional supporters.
That said, how narrow-minded are you for not respecting other peoples' right to dislike a group because of its political leanings? Everybody judges the Dixie Chicks one way or another - who are you to judge those who make an assessment that is counter to your own?
By your own standards, you're being pretty closed-mind. Think about it.

Natalie Maines spoke her mind, but in so doing, offended the wrong people. Many of your country fans are "rednecks" and are quite patriotic. Once you get on the wrong side of 'em, it is very difficult to win their favor again. Also, I have to wonder if maybe they may have been blackballed to some degree by the Bush Administration. The White House would never admit that, but it could well be the case.

Um....personally, i like the Dixie Chicks. They put out consistantly killer music, entertaining video's and they just rock. Not to mention they are cute. They spoke their minds about recent events because.......(gasp) this is a free country we can do that here.

You have to keep in mind that most country fans are, not pro war, but they are very patriotic, and plus they insulted some of the biggest names in country, they insulted some of the greatest country artist of all time. I just personally hate the music they have, I like country, just not the crap they put out.

People love to have a scapegoat, and the Dixie Chicks thought there was freedom of speech in America.
