Actually, I think the piece of paper is proof because you can't just call yourself an American when you're really not. That piece of paper shows that that you're devoted enough to become a citizen if you're not a naturally born citizen.
Anyway, what makes America special is how our government is structured, the power is equally divided in the 3 branches of government and our constitution makes us special as well.

First of all, if you're flying into the USA from any foreign country, usually you have to go through a special security screening section just for travellers going into this Country. USA is the only country in the world that is NOT using the metric system. This Country is the only developed nation in the world with NO free medical coverage or any subsidies for every single citizen. Here in this Country, you cannot ask someone if he is an illegal immigrant or not, even though that person shows up at a rally supporting amnesty for illegals. If you run for President of the United States, all your family members make national speeches telling voters what kind of a person the candidate is, like they can make unbiased critique. After elected President here, if he had extra-marital activities, the entire legislative government would spend millions of dollars and precious time to impeach him if he simply tried to keep it personal.
Why are all these things happening? Because American people feel they are on top and at the center of the world, which makes them feel very special.

This is gonna be long, because when it comes to America, I can't seem to stop talking about its riches!!
Being a 'native' (not Indian) American is indescribable! Having never lived anywhere else but California from my birth, I still cannot think that there is another country like this! It is freedom like no other country, not even UK. Unfortunately, we now have to fight the ACLU tooth and nail to keep our country rock solid.
It's really hard to say, but our anthem says it all - God bless America! Land of the Free and home of the Brave! I am so patriotic I make myself sick - with joy and thankfulness. But, to God goes the glory.
We are the ONLY country that welcomes even those stinking Islamic terrorists (because we don't know you are til you get here). And even after 9/11, we cared about our Middle Eastern liquor store owners!! Because they are Americans too. And they came here to be FREEEEEEEEEEEEEEEE!

We have one of the most dynamic economies in the world, and one of the highest levels of social mobility.
We have one of the most vibrant cultures in the world, one that is imported and imitated throughout much of the world.
We have a legal and governmental system which enshrines the concepts of limited government and individual rights.
We have a national identity based on ideology, not race.
We are probably the only nation to legally recognize an individual's right to own a firearm.

I like your question and your statement....it is VERY refreshing!!!!
I love America for reasons like you, the state of mind - the pride one feels for one's country. The CHOICES Americans have we all take for granted EVERY DAY!! Where else in the world can you have choices like this? Think of all the stuff that you may not realize.....grocery stores with shelves stocked with multitudes of selections....our rights and privileges as citizens like free speech, the rights of women as compared to some other countries, air conditioning!!! Goofy things that we forget about because they are always there!!!
I am not saying America is better than any other country be any means, I am saying that America is better for me than any other country...it's HOME......and I am proud to be an American.
Thanks for the great reminder!!!!

What makes being in America so special?
**Freedom**
"Our nation is that one among all the nations of the earth which holds in its hands the fate of the coming years. We enjoy exceptional advantages, and are menaced by exceptional dangers; and all signs indicate that we shall either fail greatly or suceed greatly. I firmly believe that we shall suceed; but we must not foolishly BLINK THE DANGERS by which we are threatened, for that is the way to fail. Roosevelt - 1900s.
**US Constitution**:
"The American Constitution is, so far as I can see, the most wonderful work ever struck off at a given time by the brain and purpose of man" by William E. Gladstone - 1900s
**Freedom of Religion**:
The American people came to the work of framing their fundamental laws, after centuries of religious oppression and persecution had taught them the utter futility of all attempts to propagate religious opinions by the rewards, penalties, or terrors of human laws. While careful to establish, protect, and defend religious freedom and equality the American Constitutions contain no provisions which prohibit the authorities from such solemn recognition of a superintending Providence in public transactions and exercises as the general religious sentiment of mankind inspires, and seems meet and proper in finite and dependent beings.- by Thomas Cooley 1900s
**Freedom of Speech**
"Freedom of speech and of the press follow from the right of free thought, and these are especially guarded in our different Constitutions, the Constitution of the Union declaring that Congress shall make no law abridging "the freedom of speech or of the press." But here we need to note the difference between freedom and license. Freedom of speech or of the press does not mean unlimited permission to speak or write or print whatever one pleases. However unlimited may be one's right to his own opinions, he may, but uttering these, invade the rights of others, and this he has no right to do." Julius H. Seelye 1900s
Equality of Law
"The American, true to his country and its traditions, must therefore necessarily hold all citizens to obedience to law, and demand that all shall be alike amenable to it and equal before it." Roger Sherman 1900s.
Supreme Court
"I confess I do not often envy the United States, but there is one feature in their institutions which appears to me the subject of the greatest envy - their magnificent institution of a Supreme Court." by Marquis of Salisbury

I like bein in America because we are not forsed to bow down to a cruel leader. I love America because we are free to marry whom we wish. I love America because we can vote our president in and vote him out again. I love America because we have the right to love it, leave it, hate it and state all those. I love America because my kids have something to be proud of as far as a nation the doesnt cause hate and fear in the hearts of its people.
