Perhaps you made a few additional purchases that then upgraded you. They have a scale based on how much you spend per year/quarter etc to determine which color you are. If you also had a Kaufmann's card, it may have combined your spending at both stores (Macy's just bought Kaufmann's) to give you the more "prestigous" card.
If you are really worried or concerned, call the number on your statement and ask them =)

Perhaps you met Macy's stringent credit requirements, such as a third grade education, the abiltiy to operate technical equipment such as refridgerator doors, and a pulse
