Anchorage is a big city so Im sure there's many things to do up there. As per the person that said it is expensive, its not. Based on a typical city, Anchorage especially is about 30% cheaper with houses and utilities that have to do with it.
The summers are in the 70s which is great unless you like humid 90 degree weather and the winter is just as anywhere else. Anchorage is not the city that it is cold year round; that is Fairbanks and Juneau.

Anchorage is quickly becoming just like any other big town anywhere in the US...'cept for its colder in the winter. I would not recommend living there. I live in Southeast Alaska. A lot of the communities there are still very small. Everyone in town knows each other. Obviously there are plenty of outdoor activities. People depend on natural resources to live (berries, game, fish, timber). Things you may take for granted living outside are sometimes hard to come by up here...especially in the winter. If you're interested in escaping the crowds and plenty of the lower 48, consider moving to the upper 1.

My wife wants to move to Alaska. ~ Let her go!
What's so special about Alaska? ~ It's big!
Probably Anchorage area. ~ It's cold!
How are people different in Alaska then in other parts of the country? ~ They're isolated!
What is there to do up there besides the obvious naturish things? ~ Nothin'!
What will it be like living up there? ~ 'Surviving', not living!
Why is it better then living anywhere else? ~ It can NOT be better!
I'm FROM Chicago & endured a few blizzards but I imagine Alaska as a hellish, grey, dismal, miserable, heathen, sad excuse for real life. I'm in a sub-tropical rainforrested coastal area of Australia after 23 years in Hawa!!. If the cost of living in Hawa!! wasn't so high, I'd still be there. I'll go to Alaska kicking & screaming!

I live in Anchorage and am moving to Florida in a month because the winters are to long and dark. I've been here for 17 years and thats enough. If you like the outdoors stuff you will love it here but if not your gonna hate it. But it is one of the most beautiful places on earth.

I'm not sure now serious your wife is about moving to Alaska. It's definitely uncrowded and beautiful. It's also extremely expensive and cold. If she is serious, and you're considering moving, I would recommend trying it out on a temporary basis just to see how you like. Spend a month there in the winter to see if you could handle it in a rental. Don't move there without a trial.

I would love to see Alaska but not live there. Pull up aids or hiv in Alaska and see how bad it is there. I have a friend there in training for the army and the first thing there Sargent told them was no sex with anyone there cause of the aids and hiv was so bad. But, they told me that it is so beautiful up there. Tell your wife to do some more research on it first.
