i love baseball , but sometimes i think that 162 games is alot. wouldnt it be better if it was like 102 games so the playoffs could be in August and everyone could stay up late watching the games since its still summer?

I think that's a great idea. And if the playoffs were in august, they'd be done by the time football season really got going, and baseball could get more national focus at that time.

Me and Georgie Porgie ,despite my deep Yankee roots ,are in agreement on this one.
The beauty of baseball is that (,prior to the creation of a multi-tiered playoff system) all of its champions have had an undisputed right to the title. They were all 100% legitimate both pennant winners and World Series winners.
What gave them their legitimacy was the long season: After playing each team multiple times a TRUE champion would emerge. There were no fluke champions who played mediocre ball all season and then got hot in a short series and won it all.
Legitimacy is what baseball is all about , it's why Pete Rose will never get in the Hall of Fame unless he buys a ticket and it's why Barry Bond's home run numbers are such a source of controversy-they may not be legit.
Take away the legitimacy and what do you have ? Hockey ? Basketball ?
In addition what do you with the numbers? pro-rate them ?
Better idea scrap the playoff system altogether. Have the Yankees and the Mets play for the title in a week and half.
Because if the two best teams don't play in the WS then baseball is in effect not only rewarding mediocrity but discouraging excellence.

Yes, the regular season should be reduced to 148 games and the playoff format should change. Six teams from each league, with the top two seeds getting byes, and the remaining four playing a best of 5 first-round series. The following rounds would remain 7 games.

162 games is too many. I can't see baseball being played on a cold night in october. While I'm at it I wish that they would do away with all these divisions, and wild card teams. A team can have a great year, go into a small slump and lose to a team that doesn't deserve to be there.

162 games is a lot. I don't think you get as tired from one game of baseball as one game of basketball or hockey though(with the 82 game seasons) and thus more htan 82 games I think is an ideal number. But double that, I think 162 is a bit much.

Baseball is spread out over a period of 7 or so months, including playoffs. I think the amount of games is perfect. If they were any shorter, teams that are in the playoffs or will make the playoffs wouldn't get the chance!

I understand your idea about the playoffs in August.
But some schools start in mid-August now,
so that's kind of a moot point.

Baseball's perfect with 162.

Baseball is 162 games long for each season. It';s designed to allow fans to sdee all the stars from many teams over a long period of time.

It also is 162 games long to make money for the owners. A lot o time, a team out of the race strarts rookies at season's end, so fans can see eho is upcoming,

That's an ideal number. That's how you can really measure good teams and separate great players from the rest. Performing well over 162 games will give you an idea of which one(s) is(are) the best team(s) and player(s).
I'd leave it like it is.

Less chance for injury means better talent on the field.
A shorter season means players would have more energy throughout and wouldn't need amphetimines to stay awake in the field.
August is an incredibly boring time in baseball because athletes are exausted from a daunting season.

But they would never shorten the season, because:

a.Each game makes the owners more money.
b. It would totally limit statistical records.
c. There's nothing else to watch before football starts.
