Bible belt means Southern Republican states... the term came about after a large evangelical movement across the South in the early 1900s.
Believe me, I live in one of those states and there is practically a church on every corner.

The Bible belt is the southern part of America: Arkansas, Texas, Oklahoma, Louisiana, Georgia...those states. Beign Republican or Democrat depends on which is doing the most for the people.

One could say that the USA has been beaten within an inch of its life by the "Bible belt"
All kidding aside, Bible belt states are southern and not necessarily Republican per se.

The "Bible Belt" states are those in the southeastern US who mostly voted Republican in the last NATIONAL election, but Democrats are still in charge of many state legislatures and Governors. The Bible belt refers to mainly fundamentalist religious leaders who lead these people like sheep to vote for "W" and his ilk in national elections.
