Of course he can... Italy is a free country... Being born in the center of the catholicism doesn't mean you have to follow it.

I am 100% Italian and an atheist. Actually, I am an evolutionist rather than a creationist. Went to 12 years of private, Catholic school, too. But of course what I learned there is the very reason I am an evolutionist.
Italians are usually very religious Catholics. Vatican City and all that.

Is there a reason an Italian guy wouldn't be able to be an athiest? I'm not supporting athiesm or anything, but is there something genetic that you think prevents Italians from thinking a certain way?

that is true, culture is a huge part of being Italian and even if you aren't raised as an Italian and you are one, trust me, you are imbedded in knowing the customs, traditions, and the followings of your own destiny and heart, we speak, we listen and we make sure we are heard, big hugs
